Getting in touch
The process begins with the first enquiry by phone or e-mail, from either one or both parties. This first conversation is free and comes with no obligation. Here we discuss what the topic would be, and which form of mediation suits the situation.
- 2
Reaching out to the other party
If only one party has come forward, where needed I reach out to the other party and present the possibility of mediation. If they would like to start the process, I send each party an information sheet setting out in detail how the process works and what it costs.
- 3
Preparatory conversation
I meet the parties separately for the preparatory conversation. This is the only occasion when we talk without the other party present. Here we clarify the situation from everyone’s point of view, as well as what they expect from the mediation.
- 4
Joint mediation session
We sit down together with the parties for a calm, non-judgemental conversation. Everyone has the chance to share their own point of view and their ideas for the future.
- 5
Exploring possible solutions
During the conversation the parties, with my help, begin to think together about possible solutions. The goal is to reach an agreement that is acceptable to every party.
- 6
Agreement
If a shared solution is reached, we put the agreement into words together. It clearly sets out who commits to what.
How does mediation work?
Mediation is a well-structured process in which you yourselves shape the solution.
